Yellow mustard is a classic topping for savory foods like hot dogs and hamburgers. But does it belong in candy? French's seems to think so.
To celebrate National Mustard Day on August 5, the condiment company is putting out a limited number of Skittles that taste like mustard.
If you think that tangy mustard and sweet candy don't go together, you're not the only one. Customers were shocked by the surprise partnership, and they weren't afraid to talk about how they felt about the product on social media.
In recent years, French's has partnered with several food companies to create eye-catching mustard treats for National Mustard Day. The McCormick-owned brand made mustard-flavored doughnuts with Brooklyn-based Dough Doughnuts last year.
French's collaborated with Oskar Blues Brewery on mustard-flavored beer in 2020 and Coolhaus on mustard-flavored ice cream in 2019.
McCormick & Company wanted to "outdo ourselves" for National Mustard Day in 2023, according to North America vice president of marketing Valda Coryat.
"We are thrilled to collaborate with Skittles to deliver our beloved Classic Yellow Mustard tang in a new, fun way to French's and Skittles fans alike," Coryat said in a release.
Regular grocery stores won't sell these odd Skittles. As a bright yellow "Mustard Mobile" bus tours the country, French's will give away packs of mustard Skittles at pop-up events next week.
